This type of planning allows you to give a gift during your lifetime or after death. Following are ways you might consider setting up a planned giving gift:
The benefactor can designate the Servants of Mary as the beneficiary of a life insurance policy or retirement plan. The Servants of Mary would receive these assets upon the death of the benefactor.
A charitable gift is included in the benefactor’s will or living trust. A gift from a benefactor’s estate may include a specific dollar amount, a percentage of the value of an estate, or any other assets. Donating appreciated assets, such as stocks, bonds, or mutual funds may provide a charitable deduction without the capital gains taxes generated from selling the asset.
There are several types of trusts, each with their own tax implications, we encourage you to discuss your situation with qualified advisors to determine the best option for you and your family. Examples of trusts include living trusts, charitable lead trusts and charitable remainder trusts.
Some businesses match the charitable gift given by an employee. Check with your employer to see if this opportunity is available. If your business does have a matching gift program, ask your employer for the form. It’s easy to complete!
